Jack Elgin (Jeremy Irons) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning magazine editor who surprises his wife and three kids with a vacation to India. In a sudden and terrifying attack, whilst the plane is refueling in Cyprus, the Elgin's jetliner is taken over by terrorists. When local authorities decide to storm the aircraft all hell breaks loose and Jack's wife and both of their daughters are killed. Jack in London, Jack comforts his traumatized young son and tries to make sense of this tragedy but is further horrified when the terrorists are released. Jack uses all of his contacts to find justice, but fails. Desperate, he begins his own investigation. His research leads him to an underground world of post cold-war mercenaries, political injustice and a variety of other dubious characters. When Jack decides to take justice into his own hands, he must distinguish between potential allies - a former Secret Service agent (Charlotte Rampling) - and potential enemies - Interpol agent Bernard
