Bridge of Spies (2015)
In the shadow of the Cold War, one ordinary lawyer takes on an extraordinary mission. Directed by Steven Spielberg and inspired by true events, Bridge of Spies is a gripping historical drama starring Tom Hanks and Academy Award winner Mark Rylance.
Movie Synopsis
In 1957, Brooklyn insurance lawyer James B. Donovan is asked to defend Rudolf Abel, a Soviet intelligence operative arrested for espionage in the United States. Although the case sparks public hostility and intense political pressure, Donovan believes that even an accused enemy deserves a fair trial. His commitment to principle puts his reputation—and his family's peace of mind—at risk.
Years later, when American U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers is shot down and captured by the Soviet Union, Donovan is recruited to negotiate a dangerous prisoner exchange. Traveling to a divided Berlin amid escalating tensions, he must navigate competing interests, secret negotiations, and the looming Berlin Wall. With lives and international relations hanging in the balance, Donovan discovers that courage can mean standing firm without ever firing a shot.
