Detailed Movie Synopsis
On an ordinary morning in Pittsburgh, a gunman fires six shots and kills five seemingly random people. The police quickly arrest former U.S. Army sniper James Barr (Joseph Sikora), and the evidence against him appears overwhelming. Yet Barr refuses to explain himself. Instead, he writes a cryptic demand: Get Jack Reacher.
Reacher (Tom Cruise), a former Army military police major who has deliberately disappeared from conventional society, arrives unexpectedly. Knowing Barr's troubling history, Reacher initially believes the authorities have caught the right man. But as he scrutinizes the crime scene, the timing, the ballistics and the suspect's behavior, troubling inconsistencies begin to emerge.
Reluctantly joining forces with Barr's defense attorney Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike), Reacher begins pulling at the threads of a carefully constructed case. Their investigation leads from witness interviews and forensic clues to a shooting range, violent confrontations and an increasingly sinister criminal operation. Powerful people want the investigation shut down, and the closer Reacher gets to the truth, the more dangerous his pursuit becomes.
