Hollywood Connections & Trivia
Three generations of Cruella: Betty Lou Gerson created Cruella de Vil's unforgettable voice in Disney's 1961 animated film. Glenn Close later played Cruella in the live-action 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000), while Emma Stone starred as a younger version of the character in Cruella (2021).
A turning point for Disney animation: One Hundred and One Dalmatians was an early Disney animated feature to make extensive use of xerography to transfer animators' drawings onto cels, giving the film its distinctive sketch-like look.
From page to screen: The movie adapts Dodie Smith's 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians, connecting this Disney favorite to a beloved children's book.
