His grandfather (Wilford Brimley), anticipating Billy's difficult transition back to civilian life, has bought a couple of redbone hound puppies for the young man--the same dogs he had as a boy, a story told in Where the Red Fern Grows. Billy resists at first but slowly bonds with the dogs, and when a young neighbor boy wants to learn how to hunt raccoons, Billy takes the boy under his wing. Meanwhile, Billy's closest friend and war buddy finds himself wooing Billy's sister Sarah, to Billy's discomfort. Where the Red Fern Grows II (or Part 2, as it's called in the credits) is a fairly straightforward and sentimental tale, but it keeps saccharine at bay by sticking with its characters and treating their lives with respect. The haunting richness of the Louisiana woods, the innocent joy we find in Old Dan and Little Ann, and the loving wisdom of Grandpa Coleman combine to touch the hearts of young and old alike. In Red Fern II, Billy Coleman (Doug McKeon) returns from WWII to his grandfather's (Wilford Brimley) home in Louisiana and tries to readjust to civilian life. But the killing he witnessed in the war, along with the fact that he has lost a leg to an enemy bullet, has embittered him. Grandpa had anticipated Billy's state of mind and has a therapeutic gift waiting for him: a pair of Redbone hound puppies - just like the ones he had as a boy. In addition to the puppies, Billy befriends a young neighborhood boy, Wilson (Adam Frazil), who reminds him of himself. Wilson and the hounds become closest friends and together they help Billy to rediscover the gift of giving - ultimately rediscovering himself.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0364/1268/6476/products/51nSwcTZqWL._AC_US218_c79c0324-8248-4b87-9fb8-d77078e34df4.jpg?v=1624938237
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0364/1268/6476/products/51HNPXG52TL._AC_US218_24c2fd82-0542-4396-a0b0-204b39f320da.jpg?v=1624939354
where-the-red-fern-grows-1974-echo-bridge
Where The Red Fern Grows (1974/ Echo Bridge)

Title: Where the Red Fern Grows
Year: 1974

Actors ‏ : ‎ James Whitmore, Beverly Garland, Jack Ging, Lonny Chapman, Stewart Petersen

Plot: Where the Red Fern Grows is a great book about the adventurous story a young boy and his dream for his own red-bone hound hunting dogs.
