Leonardo DiCaprio leads an extraordinary ensemble through a world where dreams can be entered, shared and manipulated.
Detailed Movie Synopsis
Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a highly skilled extractor—a professional thief who steals valuable secrets from inside people's dreams, when their subconscious defenses are most vulnerable. His unusual talents have made him invaluable in corporate espionage, but they have also left him a fugitive, unable to return home to his children.
Wealthy businessman Saito (Ken Watanabe) offers Cobb a seemingly impossible opportunity: instead of stealing an idea, he must plant one so deeply in a person's mind that the target believes it is entirely his own. The target is Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), heir to a powerful business empire. If Cobb succeeds, Saito promises to help him reclaim his former life.
To carry out the mission, Cobb assembles a specialized team: his meticulous partner Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), brilliant young dream architect Ariadne (Elliot Page), expert impersonator Eames (Tom Hardy), and chemist Yusuf (Dileep Rao). Together they construct an elaborate operation involving multiple interconnected dream levels, each with its own dangers and shifting sense of time.
But Cobb carries a secret that threatens the entire mission: memories of his late wife Mal (Marion Cotillard) intrude into the dream world, creating unpredictable and potentially deadly obstacles. As the team descends deeper into the subconscious, the boundary between imagination and reality becomes increasingly difficult to recognize. With time running out, Cobb must confront his past while attempting the most audacious job of his career.
