Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015) — The Terrifying Prequel
Before the Lambert family haunting, psychic Elise Rainier confronted a sinister presence threatening a young woman and her family. Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, this atmospheric supernatural horror prequel explores the dangers of communicating with the dead and the courage needed to enter the spirit realm known as The Further.
Detailed Story Synopsis
Teenager Quinn Brenner is grieving the death of her mother, Lily, and longs for one last chance to communicate with her. She visits gifted psychic Elise Rainier, hoping for help reaching her mother's spirit. Elise warns Quinn against contacting the dead: when someone calls out to one spirit, other entities may answer. Soon Quinn begins encountering a disturbing, shadowy figure, and a terrible accident leaves her vulnerable and confined to her home.
As unexplained disturbances grow increasingly violent, Quinn's father Sean struggles to protect his daughter. Amateur paranormal investigators Specs and Tucker are called in, but the malicious entity—known as the Man Who Can't Breathe—proves far more dangerous than expected. Haunted by personal loss and fearful of returning to The Further, Elise must confront her own trauma and cross into the supernatural world to rescue Quinn before the entity claims her forever.
