Detailed Movie Synopsis
Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogen) takes his job as head of security at Forest Ridge Mall very seriously. Armed with a flashlight, a fierce sense of authority and an inflated opinion of his abilities, Ronnie spends his days confronting shoplifters, troublemakers and anyone who threatens his carefully controlled world. He longs to trade his mall-security uniform for a police badge—and to win the attention of Brandi (Anna Faris), the cosmetics-counter employee he admires from afar.
When a serial flasher begins terrorizing customers in the mall parking lot, Ronnie sees his chance to become a hero. Capturing the offender could prove that he has what it takes to join the police academy and finally impress Brandi. But the investigation draws the attention of Detective Harrison (Ray Liotta), a seasoned officer who has little patience for Ronnie's reckless methods and grand ambitions.
As Ronnie clashes with the police, he turns to fellow security guards Dennis (Michael Peña), Mark (Dan Bakkedahl) and Charles (Jesse Plemons), while the kindhearted Nell (Collette Wolfe) offers a very different perspective on his troubled life. Ronnie's increasingly obsessive hunt for the culprit creates chaos throughout the mall, testing his friendships, his judgment and his grip on reality.
Edgy, unpredictable and deliberately provocative, Observe and Report takes the familiar mall-cop premise in a much darker direction. Its blend of cringe comedy, startling confrontations and offbeat characters makes it a distinctive choice for viewers who enjoy irreverent, adult-oriented humor.
