Young Frankenstein (1974) — Mel Brooks' Classic Horror Comedy
Directed by Mel Brooks and co-written with star Gene Wilder, Young Frankenstein is a loving black-and-white parody of classic Hollywood monster movies, full of unforgettable jokes, comic performances and gothic atmosphere.
Detailed Story
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, an American surgeon who insists his name is pronounced differently from that of his infamous grandfather, inherits the family's Transylvanian castle. There he meets the mischievous assistant Igor, cheerful laboratory helper Inga and ominous housekeeper Frau Blücher. A discovery of Victor Frankenstein's research draws Frederick into a bold experiment to bring a dead man back to life. When Igor supplies the wrong brain, the newly created Monster behaves unpredictably, terrifying villagers and confounding his creator. Frederick attempts to educate his creation, even putting on a spectacular musical performance, while a suspicious police inspector and a surprise visitor complicate matters. Beneath its hilarious slapstick, the film is an affectionate celebration of old-fashioned horror cinema.
